My son Jason's 15 seconds of fame

CAL POLY -- Police officers at Cal Poly are patrolling the campus in a new, environmentally friendly way.

The department recently purchased two electric vehicles, complete with lights and sirens.

They have three wheels and are battery powered.

Officers say they can now easily get to places they have never been able to in patrol cars.

"It's actually been very well received," said Chief Bill Watton. "You know, it's a big conversation piece and the officers get stopped frequently just to chat about it."

The vehicles are made by T3 Motion. Depending on the model, they cost $8,000 to $10,000.
